General Information
Bristol & Clifton is a beautiful, undulating, country golf course of distinctive character, established in 1891. It is situated just 4 miles from Bristol and only a short drive from Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.
You will find here the epitome of an English Members' golf club. We welcome all visitors to our club. We will try to provide you with all the comforts of your own club whilst always looking after our own members. If you wish to join then please contact the Managing Secretary or see Membership for details. At present there are a few vacancies.
Whilst proud of its traditional heritage, the Club takes a modern approach to the changing trends in the world of golf. We have a relaxed but fair dress code and encourage the use of buggies but only for those with medical reasons. We have fairway watering, and a state of the art driving range.
We do not have starting times, except on Competition days or Society days, which we normally keep to Thursdays. The bar is open from 11 o’clock and we have food available all day. The Pro’s shop is always manned.
If you wish to practice or have a lesson, there are four different practice areas.
A main area with eight driving bays. A practice ground long enough to hit all clubs and where players use their own balls. A new chipping green with a USGA base, which is large enough for 6 pin placements at a time and has bunkers, mounds and hollows to practice chipping from. A pitching green to hit into from up to 100 yards and of course the putting green beside the clubhouse.
The Club has always had good golfers on its books. Lately these have included:
Sian James - Reserve ladies England player
Gary Wolstenholme - British Amateur Champion and Walker Cup Player.
Mark Sanders - English Amateur Champion.
In 1999 the Club had the English Amateur Champion and County Champion on its books and neither managed to win the Club Championship.
Also in the early 2000’s there were eight male members who played for the County and two female.
In short, all that you could want in a day’s golf is at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club
