Information for New Gentlemen Members WELCOME to membership of Bristol & Clifton Golf Club. I hope the following notes will help you on joining the Club.
1.CAR PARK/CHANGING ROOMS ETC
1.1Please ensure that you always lock your car in the car park. It is suggested you do not leave any golf clubs or equipment outside the clubhouse at any time.
1.2Please do not change in the car park –use the changing rooms.
1.3There are lockers for clubs in the trolley/ locker store, but there is a waiting list at present. If you wish to be considered please give your name to the office.
1.4Please try and avoid leaving any clothing or equipment in the changing rooms overnight. Anything left will normally be removed to the drying room.
1.5Ensure you have a card or token to get out of the gates and ensure you do not try to leave before the green light is on.
2.DRESS RULES
2.1You are asked to observe the dress rules on the course and in the clubhouse at all times. Full details are available in the clubhouse and in the Pro Shop, but please note if you are going to wear shorts you must either wear long stockings or ankle length white sports socks. Also shirts must be tucked in and hats worn the correct way round
3.STARTING TIMES, COMPETITIONS AND HANDICAPS
3.1Please note that the course officially opens at 8am each day. It is possible to play prior to this time but not encouraged and members of the Green Staff have priority until 9.30am.
3.2There is a board outside the Pro’s Shop which indicates the normal starting times for two-ball or four-ball golf. These starting times must be observed.
There is a separate notice which contains details of Competitions, matches, visiting Societies etc. plus any changes to the normal starting times.
Please make sure you read these notices and adhere to the starting times displayed..
3.3If you have not arranged golf or wish to find a game please ask in the Pro’s shop or speak to the Managing Secretary.
3.4The club diary includes details of the main competitions that are fixed in advance.
3.5There is a Men’s monthly medal competition, normally on the first Saturday of every month in the summer and a Stableford Competition similarly in the winter. Entry sheets with pre-bookable start times are in the Pro’s Shop. There are also other Club competitions which are held on Sundays. These are normally enter-on-the-day competitions and the details are in the main corridor in the clubhouse, the diary and on the board outside the changing rooms. Play on the course is not restricted to those who enter these competitions and normal start times apply.
A mid-week medal is held on every other Wednesday through the summer. In particular these allow those members who are unable to play in other competitions the opportunity to complete a medal round for handicap purposes.
3.6Please note that Tuesday is Ladies Day. The Notice Board will indicate the Ladies Competition and any tee restrictions. In the summer the Ladies normally have the exclusive use of the two-ball side of the golf course until 1.30pm. All other golf is played on the four-ball side.
3.7The White [Medal] tees are used for most summer competitions, and may be used by members whenever the tee markers are out.
3.8To enter a competition a member must have a current handicap. If you do not have a handicap 3 signed cards of 18 holes must be given in to the office and a handicap will be allocated.
4.PRACTICE GROUND
4.1There are three practice areas at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club. The first of these, the driving bays situated between the 10th and 11th fairways, is operated under the control of our Professional, Paul Mitchell. This may only be used during the day by purchasing a bucket of practice balls from the Pro’s Shop.
4.2There is a large area behind the 1st green which is open to Members at all times using their own golf balls, this area also has a 6 hole pitch and putt course whichhas priority on Tuesdays and Sunday afternoons.
4.3.There are the practice greens and bunkers to the rear of the 10th Ladies Tee. Please ensure that only chip shots are played into the new chipping green and that all pitch marks are properly repaired. Priority should be given to the Professional in the event that he is giving a lesson.
5TROLLEYS & BUGGIES
5.1These are normally allowed. Please ensure you do not wheel your trolley between the bunker and the green if this is a narrow lane and please follow any directions for trolleys. Electric trolleys may be used but on occasions, if the course is very wet, these can be the subject of a ban particularly from the valley area. Trolleys with “hedgehogs” on the wheels are normally allowed to be used if the course is open.
5.2Buggies may only be used if Council give permission which will only be given if a medical certificate is produced saying that the player is not medically able to walk the course.
6.PRO’S SHOP
Our Professional, Paul Mitchell, his wife and staff will be very happy to supply all your golfing requirements. They have an enormous stock of golf equipment and clothing suitable for on and off the course. We encourage all Members to support their Professional.
Paul Mitchell and his assistant, Mark Needham, are fully qualified teachers and lessons can easily be arranged. Details and prices are in the Pro’s Shop.
7.BAR AND CATERING
7.1The Bar opening hours are exhibited on the main Notice Board. No credit is allowed at the bar. Member cards, if money has been paid onto them, will allow members to get a 15% discount off all drink prices. Ray Pointer is the House Manager and any bookings that members wish to make for social events should be made through him. The Club will organise private parties provided they do not clash with Club events.
7.2Catering is under the direction of Antony Wiltshire and his staff. Catering facilities are normally available from 11am until 4pm. Sunday lunches should be booked in advance.
7.3Members are invited to bring their spouses and other guests into the Dining Room and Lounge but should see that their names are entered into the Visitors Book.
8.OFFICE
8.1The Managing Secretary’s Office is open Monday to Friday normally 9am-5pm and at such other times as the Managing Secretary is in attendance. If you have any query on any matter please speak to the Managing Secretary, Charles Vane Percy, or his assistant, Andrea Mannion.
8.2You will receive a club diary annually which runs from March to March. The diary contains names and telephone numbers of all members at the time of printing. Please ensure that any change of telephone number is given to the office so that the diary may be updated. Diaries and bag tag stickers are collected from the office each year.
8.3The club publishes a newsletter, The Spotlight. These are normally sent to all members.
8.4The club tries to send information by e-mail on the course, social events, golf events and any other items of interest to members every month or so. Please ensure that the office has your e-mail address so that you may receive this information.
8.5Annual subscriptions are due to be paid by the 31st of December for the following year. Please ensure that the office has any changes of address.
